Training course
Subsea Materials Selection
How materials are selected and protected for subsea production systems: metallic and non-metallic materials, corrosion and cathodic protection, welding, coatings and the codes that govern them.
- Duration
- On request
- Outline
- 16 modules
About the course
This course covers the principles of materials selection and control in the offshore and subsea industry, from defining the required properties to choosing candidate materials and their processing route. It explains the metallurgy of mild steel, stainless steel and corrosion-resistant alloys, the use of polymers and composites, mechanical testing, corrosion and cathodic protection, and welding.
The second half applies these principles to each part of a subsea production system, from wellheads, Christmas trees and manifolds to flowlines, risers, valves, fasteners, flexible pipes, umbilicals and coatings.
What you will learn
The materials selection process and the principal materials used subsea
The industry guidance and codes that govern materials selection
The properties and structures of metallic and non-metallic materials
Corrosion principles and the corrosion control measures used offshore
Welding and manufacturing processes, and how they relate to material properties
