Asset Integrity Management
Life Extension Study
Demonstrating that ageing offshore assets can operate safely beyond their original design life.
Many offshore installations in the UK and Norwegian sectors of the North Sea have reached, or passed, their original design life, usually 20 years. Ageing affects structural integrity, so operators must demonstrate adequate performance before running an asset beyond that life.
We provide life-extension assessments to operators and independent verification bodies, following NORSOK N-001, ISO 19900/19902, ISO 13822 and API RP 2A-WSD. We also calculate remaining life where an asset must run at higher operating conditions, for longer or with a changed safety margin, for example after a new tie-in, a capacity increase or a new field development.
What’s included
Gathering historical and current data from the asset
Generating missing values, such as applied stresses, with finite element, pushover and redundancy analysis
Understanding degradation from earlier risk assessments and inspection data, or new risk-based studies where none exist
Remaining life and safety margins using the latest assessment methods
Identifying modifications, repairs and re-evaluation needs
Strategies for new techniques such as online monitoring
